Hi, I’m Lindsay and I live in Newbury in the UK. I was diagnosed with CFS/ME around 15 years ago, although I had been ill for five years prior to this.
For me it was a gradual decline in health, as opposed to a sudden reaction to an illness or virus.
When the Doctor diagnosed CFS/ME it was added to my medical notes but I was not verbally given a diagnosis (I happened to notice him write it down). So I was given no information or support at all. I therefore set out on own quest to gain more information about what was wrong with me and how I could get better.
By this point I was feeling incredibly unwell. I had already tried a number of complimentary therapies and nutrition plans prior to the diagnosis and I continued to do this for another 10 years or so. After many years (and tens of thousands of pounds) I learnt that there was no singular therapy that could miraculously ‘cure me’. There was no magic wand!
So I started to take more responsibility for learning as much as I could about what was happening within my body and what I could do to change it. I learnt about the nervous system, the immune system and the limbic system; about the stress cycle and how our minds and bodies are intrinsically linked. And slowly I realised I had the power to heal myself.
I took the decision to train, first in energy healing, then hypnotherapy, followed by a number of other modalities and I set up my own business, Intuitive Giraffe, in 2016.
Over the last few years I have continued to do my own research into CFS/ME and have honed a number of the techniques I have learnt over the years. These tools and techniques all form part of the CFS Roadmap for Recovery Programme I have developed – it is a step by step system, the only one I know which has actually helped.
A transformation
My health now is far better than it used to be – I have enough physical, emotional and mental energy to throw myself into work I absolutely love. I am able to travel to so many of the places I wanted to see.
I have tried golf, horse-riding, swimming with dolphins and salsa lessons, and I’m able to go out dancing and watching live music (one of my big passions). I still carefully manage my energy and continue to use the tools which form part of this programme. But for me, the change to my health has completely transformed my life and I feel so honoured to have learnt what I have over the last 20 years. It’s been an incredible challenge but it’s been worth it!
